An Extremely Brief History of Harrods

NEFP

Harrods was founded in 1834 by Charles Henry Harrod. It was a wholesale grocery store then, specialised in tea. By 1880 it was selling a great variety of products and had 100 employees. One of its customers was Oscar Wilde!

Although it burnt down in 1883, its owner managed to rebuild it.

In 1898 the first escalator was built. People got so nervous that they were offered some brandy at the top. It must have been like a roller coaster ride.

You can read more about its history at Harrod’s website; you will find some interesting facts. You can also browse its products and services. Don’t get lost. Come back and share your trip. What caught your attention?
